I have a great interest in water mills, and have now purchased our own. It is in Brittany France, and will be developed as an example of how to use the water to produce power and then to use this power to give heat and light for the mill house and mill itself.
We will be installing an Archimedes screw turbine, heat pump and underfloor heating, a power management system, will the control the load on the turbine, using short term the head of water to increase power output as demand rises, or reduce non critacal load. If demand is lower than consumption then the sluices will reduce flow and therefore power output, allowing the had to build up and go to waste in the leat bypass stream.
